HAPPY BIRTHDAY JUNE!
Today you are turning 11 years old but sometimes it feels like maybe you're turning 15 or something with the way life is and all the growing up you've done. This year was a big one in a lot of ways. You worked so hard at so many things and saw so many pay offs. You've really gotten into tumbling and found a deep reserve of discipline inside yourself for this. You spent many hours practicing new skills and humbly learning from friends and you accomplished a lot! And then yesterday, the day before your birthday, you finally nailed your front walk over.
You're still very into singing, song writing, theater, story writing and hip hop dancing. You've grown so much in all of these as well, and it is so wonderful to watch you in them! Your dancing is really impressive and your talent for choreographing songs. You are comfortable singing and acting. And your stories are so creative and clever! You really like making comics too.
You're still goofy and make us all laugh all the time. You've matured a lot too though. You've taken on some baby sitting of your siblings this past year and you really love to earn trust and help out. You've grown so much in cleaning your room, doing your laundry, and helping out with cleaning around the house.
Don't get
me wrong, you're still a tornado of creative ideas, but, despite the
messes, I would never want that energy of yours to go away! It will be
fun to see where you go in this life! You made it into the student
association for your last year of Elementary school and we're so proud
of you for making that! I know you worked hard!
We've
also come a long ways this year with figuring out things that work best
for you to help with the crazy world of mental health. You've been so
good about it all and worked hard at talking through things and it's
made a huge difference! We've had so many new kinds of talks this year
too- about puberty and navigating tough friend things and beyond. You've grown so much too in saying you're sorry and helping to calm ME down sometimes! (wasn't that supposed to be my job?!)
Honestly, it's been weird with you growing up. It's a strange transition for me too. To put aside some of my only mom skills used for smaller children and try to learn new ones for a tween. And changing up our discussions and coping skills.... giving you more trust and room to grow and fly. I feel like by the time I figure it out you will be moved out of the house! Please forgive me and all my many mistakes. You are wonderful and a light in this world.
But, like, maybe we could freeze time here for just a little bit. Maybe give me some time to figure out this mom stuff and keep you at this age where you still like me and talk to me for hours. I think that's a good idea.
