Friday we woke up and packed up. We decided to
go into one of the seaside towns and walk the street of shops by the
ocean. We got some salt water taffy and a few little gifts.
There was a whale watching station so we went into that and
what luck! A grey whale showed up right in the bay in front of the
windows we were looking out! It spouted water and flipped its tail!
So cool!
Then we stopped by a beach and played one last time
before heading back to Boise. And it was the best. We got the kites
out and the sun came out! The kids even took their shoes off and were
running in and away from the waves. It was magic.
And then, as if the
whole thing hadn't been good enough, I looked over and saw the most
beautiful hand blown glass orb resting in the sand. I was curious how
anyone could lose such a thing and I went to pick it up. On the other
side I found a sticker that said, “Finders Keepers. Float number
2829, register on this website” and I realized I got to keep it! I
showed Max and Rebecca and their jaw dropped- they had been looking
for one of these glass floats this whole past year! They couldn't
believe that I had found one! They were so kind though and happy for
me! I guess it's something they have in that city area where people
secretly leave these floats around to be found. So so excited!
I
very reluctantly left the beach when it was time to go. We had a long
drive ahead but man I wanted to stay in that sun and sand! What a
perfect ending to our time in Oregon.
On the drive back Buck and
I discussed if we could somehow just sell everything and take our
kids off on a road trip forever. Haha But ultimately I know that is
not right for us and it wouldn't always be so perfect if we did it
full time. ;) But I do still feel the beat of the drum, that clock
ticking away.... the Grimm reaper at our necks... I want to take my
kids and run away! Freeze time for as long as I can. Sigh.
The
drive ended up being fine until the sun went down and it started to
rain and the roads were SO dark and we were going up over a mountain
pass and semi trucks were spraying more water and the roads were
narrow and winding.... it was SO scary and tense! And Buck and I were
listening to this book that made us sad too. Bad idea. Haha But we
made it alive! And got into Boise at 1:00 am! Eek!
There are truly so many beautiful places to visit! I hope that we will have the chance to see more!
