She Belonged to the Summer

She always awoke to find the songs of the birds upon her. To see her was to look into a golden sky. A sky where when the night came you found stars falling all around you. To know her was to taste honey. To lie next to her was to commune with the breeze.

She belonged to the summer.

One longed to stand or bathe in her garden. To listen to her speak was to be touched by pearl moonlight. A light of pale silver reminding you to breathe. To dream with her was to sit beneath the almond tree. To share in her secrets was to be covered in clovers.

She belonged to the summer.

And as long as you´re with her you belong to it too. To her and her mind. To be covered by the sun in her hair, in its golden madness. To explore and discover. To be warm.

For when the leaves plummet and the trees reveal their teeth; when virtue falls from the sky in cold anger- that is when you will wake up alone, left with a whisper. For you knew she couldn't last there.

She always belonged to the summer.

Attempting to Move

P.S. I moved to Utah on Thursday. Well, attempted. We shall see if it all works out. Need a job, need a place to call home.

So far I am crashing in my grandparents basement till those two other things happen. Which need to happen soon. But in the meantime I am thankful for this time I get with my grandma and grandpa. And other people.

Four Seasons and a Road Trip

I have this formula I devised for my (somewhat tragic) dating life. Recipe is as follows: four seasons, a road trip, two weeks apart, and a fight. Today I will highlight the road trip. dun dun dun Now before I go any further let me just add for all you seven followers that while my life is a little sketchy at times that this road trip was full of propriety and separate rooms. Just so you can enjoy and not wonder whilst reading.
Okay.
We started in North Carolina. The weather was cold but fine. But as soon as we crossed into Virginia it began to snow.

Because the East was having the worst snow storm in like 20 years. Glad we could begin our road trip at this time. Seeing as I LOVE winter soo so much. (not)(even)(true) (I HATE it!)
But whatever, we found a cool church.
Then we crossed into treacherous West Virginia where the weather was as nasty as the rumors about the state.

And what a lovely welcome it was. Needless to say, we got stranded there overnight. Which was fine.

But the next day we found something glorious:

Best donuts ever. Not sure if it even had anything to do with how they tasted. Probably just the brilliant name.

Anyways, we went to Kentucky and went to an old historical (and haunted) house and got a private tour, even though they were closed for the season. We also ate at the Claudia Sanders restaurant mansion. Wife of the Kentucky Fried Chicken man.

Then we made our way to Santa Claus Indiana and stayed there! It was awesome. We stayed at Santa's Lodge. Went to the Santa museum. It's a small town but even the grocery store was festive: Holiday Foods.

This is the post office where all the kids Christmas letters get sent to every year!

Then we also went to Lincoln's boyhood memorial on his birthday! And then we found a HUGE Abby full of monks. One of them sat down and played the large pipe organ. We stood there alone listening to our private little show.
Then we drove through Illinois and then into Missouri. The car heater stopped working and we stopped in Independence for the night.Next day he punched the heater and it started working. Hallelujah. Then we went to Liberty Jail.

Then continued trekking through Iowa an into Nebraska where we went to Winter Quarters.

Then we realized that we could either go the boring I-80 route through Nebraska or we could go north, through small towns and land in Valentine Nebraska.... on Valentines Day. It felt like we didn't even have a choice. Fate had already decided....

So we went and stayed at a Bed & Breakfast in the small town of 2,000. It was a fabulous antique Victorian house and I loved it! We woke up and ate breakfast that fateful morning of Valentines day with the inn owner, Cindy. She told us of the events that we to take place that day. A wedding, a town coronation (where they crown a valentine queen and king every year) and a restaurant that served heart shaped steaks. So, once again, fate left us no choice and we ended up staying the whole day instead of continuing on.

Which ended up being the best thing ever. Seeing as the wedding got canceled last minute and there was a news crew coming to film and so they decided that Buckley and I should pretend to get married instead. I ended up in someone's mother's wedding dress from the 1940's and next thing we knew we were on the news in Nebraska. Famous people have to start somewhere right? I'll post the news story sometime. Anyway, that was grand and the coronation was funny and dinner was good. Best Valentines day. Ever.

The day after we raged through Nebraska, stopping to see Carhenge. A Stonehenge replica made from junk cars. In the middle of nowhere. We also stopped and made friends at the local diner. Which was a theme of the trip.
Then we got into Wyoming. We stopped to pay homage to a giant (and significantly random) Virgin Mary statue.
Then we went to a small town that had some hot springs and we stayed (and were haunted) there.
We ended the epic road trip in Utah. We stopped to eat in Park City and then we arrived.

The whole thing was wonderful and strangely holiday themed. It couldn't have gone any better. Except maybe if it had been summer. BUT even then, it was unique being in the winter because we got every place to ourselves, so I shouldn't complain. I am thankful for the adventures I've been given. And I'm thankful that others can view them on the 10 o'clock news.
