Happy Halloween!
Irish Dance Feis
Hazel did her second ever Irish dance competition! It was exciting because she was excited and she had a lot of fun. And she got a fourth place medal on one of the dances!
Autumn Tea
Last week I noticed that there was going to be a cold front coming through and so on the last warm day of the year/season, I knew I had to do something to take it all in, one last time. I had a long list of to-do's, as always, but I decided to be irresponsible instead and invited some friends to go have a little tea party/picnic up the canyon. It was truly wonderful and so amazingly magically beautiful.
My friend Elizabeth asked if it was okay if she brought her two little kids- of course it was! In fact, I was sad my kids were in school and unable to join too. For 12 years these are the kinds of simple outings I took with my kids and I have found so much joy in motherhood in these moments. To go and do it alone.... felt so strange and sad. But I thought a lot about how this was a transitional moment for me- to go and do this kind of thing just for myself. To transition a bit into a new time of life. Just a little bit.
I also tried to channel the energy of the trees so that I too can do what they do- spend a season letting go and then rest for a time. Do you think maybe this winter will be my time to actually enjoy it? There's always a hope and chance! ;)
For the tea party I brought my old Armenian tea cups and and some cider and apple cinnamon tea. And all was right.
I'm grateful for spontaneous friends.
