Travel to Canada

We went to Canada! I have a long time friend/former missionary companion who lives there and we have never visited. So it was time. 

But first we made a stop for the night on our way there.  We drove a few hours to Dayna’s house in Firth Idaho. You should all remember Dayna by now. Long time friend since the days of Jacob Lake. I’m so grateful I know her and have remained friends all these years. She is so unique with her love of geology, pottery, and fire fighting. We stayed the night there to shorten our Canada drive a bit but mostly I just wanted to spend some time together. 

The evening was nice. They fed us meat stew with rolls. The kids played. Dayna kept finding things for the kids to play with.  In the end Rose just wanted to play with their golden retriever, Gus, and June just wanted to catch one of their chickens. Hazel and Johnny played in their garage with scooters. It was annoyingly cold outside. But we enjoyed their views of endless farm fields of wheat.

We got up and got back on the road, headed for Canada! Really we didn’t make any exciting pit stops, we just drove and stopped at gas stations. We listened to a family audio book and I let the kids watch some movies and stuff too. I also would try and force them to just play or stare out their windows. The border crossing into Canada was uneventful.  And next thing we were at Camellia’s house!

And now for the way back home after a wonderful week, just because I have a few photos and they need to go somewhere.

We got up and packed and the kids said their good byes and we hit the road. We drove over 11 hours home that day and getting through the border back in the states took forever since there was only one agent and a million cars. We listened to an audio book and I let the kids be on screens and then yelled at them to stop being on screens and we ate a lot of crappy junk food from various gas stations and that about sums it up.

Random pit stop, we discovered ourselves in Roberts Idaho at a gas station so I had to go see if the old haunted restaurant was still there, and it was! And so was the pet gator! So the kids got to check it out too.
