Anniversary Celebrations

Trying to celebrate a wedding anniversary when you have a very fresh newborn in your care is not easy or normal. We would know, we've done it twice now! haha And the first time was kind of a disaster... we left four week old June with my sister and friend over night and Buck and I went to Lagoon amusement park and stayed the night at a hotel nearby. Of all the things! We did that because we were sleep deprived and saw a groupon deal for Lagoon. That was it. And that was enough that we did it. WE COULD HAVE GONE TO A SPA OR SOMETHING- but no- an amusement park. In the heat of August as we were sleep deprived and delusional. We wandered around looking for air conditioned or shaded places to sit. Then we had to keep going out to the hot car so that I could pump. Then I went on a roller coaster and started bleeding again too. Just not a good idea! We laugh about it a lot now. But let it be known that meanwhile my sister and friend took top notch care of June that night. ;)

So ANYWAY, this year we had a two week old and I knew better. So we spaced out the celebrations a little and did more low key things and for the first time ever, we are forgoing an overnight stay away- for now- we'll do that later this year when it's right. First we got to go to the Cheesecake factory for lunch the Saturday before our anniversary. But I am too out of it to manage photographic evidence of that.

Then the day of our anniversary I tried my best to do something special, anything! Sadly, it was the first day back to work for Buck- how unfortunate! But my mom was in town that week. She made us all a steak dinner, bless her. Then I had set out a bunch of candles and a blanket on our deck and was going to surprise Buck with ice cream sundaes to eat up there together. But then the rains came and soaked the blanket and candles and ruined it all so that didn't happen. But I still showed Buck the soggy display so he at least knew my heart was in it. So instead we went to our balcony off our room and sat there and read from my "Buck journal"* and talked about life for a little while. But only for a small moment and then it was back to nursing a baby and getting crazy girls into bed.

So we have this tradition that every anniversary we do something new together that we've never done before** (note: we could have individually done the things but as long as we've never done it together  then it's free game.)
So it all worked out that this year we were able to go to a concert together for our new thing! And it was a great one to go to as well- Jack Johnson. :)
And more blessings still- Buck's brother and his wife volunteered to babysit the girls so that Buck and I could go to the Jack Johnson concert. And Buck's sister and her husband also had tickets to this concert, so that was an added fun bonus.

So we did that. We took Johnny with us. It was a super crowded concert outdoors. We were back on the grass area, super far away from the stage so we could not see him at all. Haha but it was fine because we were so tired. It felt more like a chill music festival more than some concert. So as the first song started we laid down and cuddled and nearly fell asleep. Ha. But we sat sometimes and even stood a few times. It was funny to watch the different people there too. And of course I enjoyed the music. Buck was also extra amorous towards me and it's felt like a decade since we've been able to remember how it feels to just be together, even if I was too tired to give it back. (and we weren't even alone since Johnny was there haha!)
Also, cool fact: Jack Johnson makes it so that there is no plastic at his concerts. So there were no straws or plastic lids or plastic bottles. Only cans or paper cups. His stage lighting was made out of recycled plastic cleaned from the ocean. Metal straws were for sale there too. I thought that was cool.

So yeah. That was our sleepy date night!

Baby's first concert!

One day I'll make a book with photos of me and all the places I'v nursed my babies haha.
(it's hard to tell but I'm doing that here.)

So yeah! There it is! Another year in the books, as they say. We realized that for most of our anniversaries I've either been pregnant or nursing a baby. While these years are special in their own ways, I wont lie- I'm quite looking forward to many years to come of anniversaries where we can celebrate our wedding day the way it started- with just the two of us. ;)

*The night before our wedding Buck gifted me with two journals- one for him and one for me. He said they were the place we could go to write about one another and the things we loved about each other through the years. Truly the best gift he's ever given me. 💗

** New things we've done, in order of years and if I was pregnant or nursing:
Nursing- Watching a solar eclipse (and glamping, guess that counts too)
Then of course this year- nursing! ;) Out of eight years I've had TWO where I was free and had my body to myself! So funny.

Happy Anniversary! I'm so glad you were still able to celebrate together! Super impressive! And I'm so sad that your first version of a balcony picnic didn't work. One year for our anniversary, Miles was 3 weeks old and we went to the tulip festival as a family then my mom watched the boys while we went to the temple for sealings. We were sleeping through most of those sealings!
