Harvest

We try so hard to be gardeners. But we only try for a couple of months and then the other couple we kind of give up. I'm not sure what's wrong with us. But everything looked so promising this year. Yet, the honey dew dried up, the squash were hard as rocks, and apparently we can't grow garlic. But the herbs flourished, like they do every year- spearmint, lavender, lemon thyme, opal basil, and catnip. I documented the various other foods that did grow, so here they are: (notice how the grass changes from summer to fall! Kind of fun)

Tomatoes. We had quite a few but the girls picked a ton of them when they were still green. Bummer. 

I feel like I could have drawn a little face on this carrot and made it look like someone doubled over in stomach pain.

We had a lot of green beans! But I missed half of them too before they dried out.

Sad news, our big peach tree died this year. :( I am so sad about it. But thankfully we have another small one and it surprised us and gave us several dozen peaches!

Um, like one of four tiny strawberries we got... but I'm counting this as a win since it's never worked before in previous attempts.

This is one of the most exciting to me! The raspberries! There were several other handfuls that looked like this. It's was a small thrill for me to check every week for new berries. 

This is the one sugar pumpkin that grew. Buck plans to make a pie out of it.

We also grew a garden full of gourds! That was something new we tried and even though we got too excited and cut them out before they were full grown... it's been fun to have the fall decorations straight from the earth.

And thus ends our garden chronicles for the year. Hoping we get even more diligent next year!
