Rose's Birthday Festivites

I'm of the belief that birthdays are special, sacred even. A day to celebrate the people we love most? I'm in. I love to make the day feel truly different from a normal day. And how do you do this for a one year old? I'm learning that simple is still special and more than enough.

The morning of Rose's birthday, she woke up to decorations and presents. She had a breakfast of traditional coffee cake (with a candle,) berries, and sausage. Then she played with her new toys and we had a calm morning.

Hazel and I (June was at school) then took Rose swimming to a rec center since she loves playing in the water so much. I tried a new place but it was kind of a bust because the little kid section was roped off. LAME. But Rose didn't mind. She loves the shallow end where she could crawl and walk through the water and splash. Then we all went thought the lazy river or "lazy waters" as Hazel calls them, and that was fun. It was also a strange time because we were the only people in the whole swimming place. So it was oddly quiet.

 Then it was birthday nap time. And after that I gave Rose a cupcake (and a candle) and it was hilarious. She grabbed the whole thing and just smashed it into her mouth.

A couple days later on Saturday we had a little party for her. The guests showed up, Buck's family and aunt Susie and then Chelsea and her kids. We had a pasta bar and fruit. I decorated in pastel rainbow colors because Rose is my "rainbow baby" (a baby after a miscarriage.) She got lots of presents and then my sis-in-law, Jade, made the cutest rainbow cake for her. It was a simple party but it was perfect for a one year old.

It was the happiest of birthdays for our little Rose.
