On Saturday, during Labor Dy weekend, we decided to stay home a while and get some yard work
done. Buck needed to transfer a huge pile of broken up cement chunks
(that he and his dad broke up last year so we could put in our little
patio.) We decided to get the girls involved. Hazel was ALL about it.
She got her little dinosaur garden gloves on and went right at it!
But it took some extra coaxing to get June to work. (MAN she reminds
me of myself! haha!) She got into it for a while though, excited to see how
many heavy pieces she could carry.
During the time that we were all out there together was
somehow one of my favorite moments as a family thus far. Out of all
the grand and fun things we have done, THAT was near the top. Filling a
bucket with cement rocks, carrying heavy pieces to the truck bed. How
could that win my heart? It was something about being there as a
little family, working hard together. The way the girls were learning
about team work, muscles, and hard labor. Hazel flexed her little
arms and announced, “I am growing my muscles!” and June found
ways to make it an adventure, claiming to find fossils of dinosaur
teeth in the cement. We talked about all the centipedes that were
scattering in the sunlight as we unearthed their homes, we saved
snails by putting them in the bushes. For the most part they kept
helping and enjoying it, and what's more is that it did actually
help! The pile disappeared from the earth and collected into the
truck bed much faster than if Buck had been doing it alone. There was
something about that pocket of time, in our little tiny corner of this
earth. There wasn't anywhere else I'd rather be.

I love how different your girls are and how you see the strengths in all their differences. This is one of Max's absolute favorite things, the times when we are all out raking leaves, working in the garden, or working as a team to accomplish something. My boys love to help and "grow strong muscles" too. It's just another decent thing about them getting older!
Working together as a family is the best! I used to complain about it a lot when I was a kit, but I have fond memories of those times now. There is something very satisfying about knowing you are contributing to the greater good of the family.
Funny how working together can bring such memories and rewards. And you made it a bit of an adventure.
