Boise Week- George Washingtater

 On our last day in Boise, while I was doing laundry, Hazel freaked out that I washed her jeans that had something in them, or so she thought. She had found a funny little card on the grass at the fireworks. It was of a stuffed animal potato that was dressed like George Washington. And it read “Goerge washing-tater.” Understandably she was sad to lose that. So that lead me on a hunt to research if I could find out about it. I found out the state treasurer, a woman, had decided to make costumes for the iconic state “Spuddy Buddy” stuffed potato in celebration of the 250th 4th of July. She made 15 costumes of different founding people. Incredible. But I couldn’t find a flyer or card online. I showed my mom and she did even more research and found that the potatoes were on display at the capital! So even though we didn’t have much time before we were leaving back to Utah, of course we went to the capital. Priorities. 

Once there we found them but only two of them were there, behind a glass case, and the others had posters up and the words “Currently traveling” on the bottoms. We were a bit bummed. But then peered into the windows of the state government officials offices and noticed some papers on a table. We knocked and they let us in but that office only had some Idaho stickers. But they took us to go next door to the treasured office. The actual treasurer, the woman who made the taters, wasn’t there but her secretary was and she left us in and took pity on our story and next thing we knew she pulled out boxes of cards- not only of George Washing-tater, but of all 15 patriotic taters! And then she revealed that the Benjamin franklin tater was in the office packed and about to travel so she got him out and let us see him! It was so fun. And was 1000x better than having one card. We had a whole collection now! And even other things as well. We found out they had a whole treasure hunt at the capital right now. So we thought we were intruding but actually it was not only allowed but encouraged at the moment. Haha So we did the other offices as well and got other cool pins and buttons and papers and learned cool stuff.

(side note, we only had Harvey with us because Erin and Dan had left that morning to take Ginny to NYC! And Walter was with a babysitter.) 

Idaho's state seal is the only seal in America that was painted and designed by a woman! So cool.
