Anniversary- Part II

The next day of our anniversary getaway, (see Part one HERE) we kind of left things more open so that we could feel more free than we have in a long time.

We went to breakfast and also asked the server any tips of fun things to do around the area. I'm glad we did this because we ended up at a little known spot.

It's an old historic homestead where a Swiss immigrant, convert to the church, came and settled with his family. (a wife and 11 children!) The home is still standing and we got to go on a little self guided tour and then wander through the surrounding trees and by the creek. There was an old orchard of apple trees as well and we learned that you can make a reservation to come pick them. The day was full but “Anna's luck” came shining through when the 12:00 appointment never showed up so the worker shrugged his shoulders and let us take that time and pick apples instead.

We got to use these tall apple pickers to reach high in the branches. We saw some deer and one nearly came up to Buck to eat the apple he was offering it. We got two basket fulls and and had a good time! I was so grateful for that unplanned gem- those are always my favorite things.

Then we went for a drive and ended up getting lost on some intense dirt mountain roads that I'm pretty sure are only meant for 4-wheelers but Buck was thrilled to take his truck bouncing around the trail.

After all that we ended up in Park City where we walked the famous Main Street, wearing masks, and went to the different art galleries, ate ice cream, and did a little shopping. It's always so freeing to be together, no kids, and have no time limits!

We got pretty tired so we headed back to Midway and ate dinner at a new restaurant and talked about what we hoped the next ten years will look like.

Then we checked into a new hotel, the Zermatt, a Swiss hotel, and we were able to watch the outdoor concert they were having from our window. I was especially entertained by the seemingly drunk people dancing at the foot of the stage. After that all settled down, I finally played a strategic game with Buck. I never play these kinds of games but it's all he wants to do so there it is. Now I played once so I am the best wife ever, right?

The next morning we checked out and then tried to find somewhere exciting to eat breakfast and got a bit distracted by random wild west towns and buildings with cars coming out of them.

Finally we got food and then we headed home where we had excited kids waiting for us! The girl who babysat for us had the house and children all clean. She's amazing! And the kids had a great time! We brought home some fun little souvenirs as well for them. For Hazel two old antique keys and a kazoo (she's obsessed with these things lately,) a crystal gem stone necklace for June, a kaleidoscope for Rose, and a little ball gun thing for Johnny. For Winta a neat stone bracelet thing and for Haben some small cross earrings. 

Even though all my big adventurous plans didn't get to happen this year, I feel like we got to experience the same kinds of thrills in our own state:  Getting lost, checking off life goals, getting tips from the locals, finding little known places, enjoying incredible nature, and different style hotels. We also got to feel like best friends again and not just "parents" together, you know? That was really the best part of all and a good reminder as to why it's so important to make time to get away sometimes together. 💖
