That morning we woke up early and went on a tour of Antelope
Canyon. I can't believe that I've never gone there before! It was
AMAZING! It's a sacred Navajo slot canyon that was formed by rain
water. The walls are made of orange and red sand stone that
intimately dances and weaves like clay that's been molded by a giant
bristled brush. I can't even imagine the holy moment the person had
who first discovered it!
It was a wonderful tour and we felt bad afterwards that Dennis had
stayed back with Johnny and Rose. None of us really knew what it was
going to be like. We understood that it was going to be over a mile
hike to it and we thought after the hike there would be one cavern to
view and then we'd turn back around and hike again. We didn't want to
bring Rose with how she had been that week and it was during Johnny's
nap too and Dennis wasn't sure he was up for the hike anyway so he
was kind and volunteered to stay back. But really it was a five
minute walk and then a mile through the magnificent slot canyon and
they could have totally handled that. So I guess we have a good
excuse to go back again now. ;)
Then we all hung out for a few hours at the camp. The girls made
their “Red ant cafe” of red berries and flowers and then watched
the ants take those berries and they followed them home. Some people
read books. Some little girls played in the dirt. “Baby shark”
was sang many times. We lounged in the camper. And then eventually we
headed for another beach.
This beach was a big walk. And it was 100 degrees that day, the
one day with no storms, of course, and it was windy. HOT WIND. The
walk down the huge, hot hill was killer. The beach was rocky. Our
canopy kept being bent in the wind. The whole thing felt a bit
desolate. And in the end I went back early to put Johnny down for a
nap. I guess everyone else managed to have fun in the end though.
Rose got to play, now that she was feeling better, Hazel found about
56 shells, June played ball games on the beach and the adults sat
their chairs in the water.
Champion dad
I took a little nap and then got dinner ready for everyone. I
didn't mind the quiet time with Johnny after he woke up either. He's
so yummy and silly!
Once they all got back Jade and Lauren kidnapped me to go into
town to get some ice cream. It was good to have some girl time and
talk about life.
That night we had a glow stick party before the girls went to bed.
And then, as always, the adults stayed up too late and laughed and
burned stuff. I think it's funny to be with men around a camp fire.
Women wouldn't sit around and quietly stare at random objects they
decided to experiment with and burn in a fire pit. But such is the
life of men. ;)
One more to go! Up next: Part 4

I never knew that Antelope whatever was near Powell. So thank you for educating me :)
Just have to say: I am so glad you took a photo of Buck carrying Jonny in the stroller. I'm so mad I never took a photo of my husband hauling our son up and down all the stairs in China in his stroller. Didn't even occur to me I should. I was just super impressed and told everybody he did it but I think I was so focused on getting up and down the stairs, I didn't pause for two seconds and take a picture! Super dads for sure.
I need to go to antelope canyon now. Pretty amazing. Apparently they don’t have any beaches near parking at Lake Powell. I’m exhausted thinking about the long walks and all the hauling of stuff in and out.
