Hazel's "Monster-Bat Carnival" Party

Hazel made sure to turn five years old in style, as usual. But of course, in her own unique ways. This year she requested a "monster-bat carnival" for her party. She's loved bats for years now and anything spooky, silly or monster related. So it fits her well. ;) 

On her actual birthday I put up some bats and monsters and balloons. She woke up excited and got to open presents and have the traditional coffee cake for breakfast. 

When she saw these monsters she said, "Oh look! Some inflatables!" haha I just like her word choices.

 Among other things, she got some fancy sprinkles and a doll that you can arrange all the major organs in to learn about the body. I know, sounds weird but she loves that kind of stuff. 😂

 And then.... well. She had a very quiet day. 

Rose was sick. See, before Hazel's birthday, Hazel was sick throwing up and with a kidney infection for five days. Then Rose was throwing up for four and had strep throat. It was rough (and don't worry I ended out the week throwing up too! Fun times over here. Try not to be too jealous.) And anyway, on Hazel's birthday Rose got extra sick and super dehydrated and we ended up having to take her to a traumatic visit to the ER. I'm so thankful for Buck's family who came and took the June and Hazel out to dinner that night while Buck and I were at the hosptial. they took her to Denny's, her choice, and we are blessed to have good family here who takes good care of us all! I felt so bad to miss her birthday dinner and that we weren't able to do anything fun on her big day either. What's more is that we had to cancel her birthday party twice due to all the never ending sickness. But she was a good sport about it all and I was probably more sad than she was. haha But as Shakesphere says, "All's well that ends well." And we finally had her party a couple weeks later! haha 

 So here's some photos from the monster bat carnival. We borrowed a popcorn machine from the neighbors, served cotton candy and snow cones from little machines that we already own.

 Of course we had the CUTEST cake made by Buck's sister, who is always spoiling us with her amazing talents!

 The cotton candy was all fluffy and then shrunk quite rapidly 😂

 I had several carnival type games so I had prizes for each game. Here was the prize board area.

 We set up our little bounce house too. I probably should have had parents sign a waiver for their kids first. hahaha But it's fine, they had fun with only a few tears. ;)

 We did a bean bag toss to some monster cans

A ball toss into fish bowls (you know how they have gold fish at carnivals? Like that game, except with bats. haha) 

 They played with the parachute.

 They did monster stickers

 And then fished for monster ducks

Presents were everywhere!

She kept her distance from the sparklers on her cake.  ha

 I have never had so many games or activities for a party before. 😂 But we pulled it off and made up for all the sick days, I think.
