This past weekend Buck and I got to escape normal life for a weekend and go to California! The main reason we went was for my friend's wedding, which needs a post all its own, but we went an extra night to have one last getaway, or "babymoon" before life gets even crazier. (It scares me that that's even possible!) And the only way we were even able to do all of this was thanks to Buck's parents who watched our three girls the whole time! More about that later as well. But first! The baby moon.
Thursday morning we woke up early and went to
the airport. The flight wasn't super long and Buck and I spent the
time talking about lots of things. We hardly get to talk anymore, it
seems, with our noisy kids always around, so it was nice to be able
to have real conversations.
We landed and got our rental car and then decided to drive the
hour or so to Santa Barbara where we were staying for the night. We
couldn't check in yet so we went and got lunch at a yummy cafe,
where, despite being childless, I managed to spill a peach smoothie
all over myself. Sigh. (and later at dinner I dumped a whole basket
of chips all over the floor. I shouldn't be allowed in public...) And
anyway, then we went to the beach that was right there and walked down the pier and got ice cream and stuff.
Then we
went to the sand and sat down for a long while, wanted to sleep there
but got nervous about sun burns, and then went for another walk. Of
course, we're alone and having good conversations but we end up
talking about our girls over half the time. And then combing the
beach for rocks and shells that they would like.
So it was a nice relaxing time where we learned that we no longer
know how to be spontaneous. Also I kept having contractions and
they were painful and draining. So it's not like I was about to go
rent a kayak. Also, it felt too chilly there to swim, it was perfect
weather to be in but not in that cold ocean!
And regardless, I think
we needed that down time to talk and relax more than anything.
Carrot kelp!
Once we could check in we explored the fancy hotel a little bit.
This was a hotel room we booked months ago (and thankfully paid for
back then) before we knew how broke we'd be after moving into our new house! Haha So
it was FANCY. Such intense and perfect decorations, like you were in
a whole other land. No regrets. ;)
So many attractive photos of me.
We went to a nice Mexican dinner (yes, where I dropped the chip basket) and then that
fancy nice bed was so nice that we came back to the hotel and watched
shows as the sun went down. And, again, I really was exhausted and
feeling lots of pain so hey, it was best to use our money spent on that
room and to stay in it for as long as possible, right? ;)
The next morning we took our time waking up, getting ready, eating a nice
breakfast. Then off to the wedding venue we went. It was only an hour
drive and it was a calm drive. We even stopped on the side of the
road at a fruit stand and got oranges, strawberries, and honey. My mom would be both parts proud and jealous. (She HAS to stop at any and all fruit stands now matter where we are.)
And then off to "The Mansion" we went for the wedding! That post coming soon

A) You've barely been home for 24 hours and this is already posted!
B) So happy you got this babymoon, you and Buck deserve it
C) That hotel looks amazing!
D) I laughed out loud at the peach smoothie and chips spilling. I find that I'm usually the one to spill food on my clothes and my children can't be blamed.
E)There definitely are a lot of attractive photos of you. (that sounds more weird than I meant)
F) You are the best at finding the most elegant flower walls!
I was also amazed at how fast you had this post up! Nice work! This looks like the perfect babymoon and that hotel is breathtaking! I want to stay in a fancy place like that!
