You guys, I am loving the variety of service projects I am able to find on Justserve.org. For my post this month for Little Hands Can, we decided to go help at a local garden. It's a garden run and tended to by the Orem Community Church. They grow all the food and donate it to a local food bank/coalition that then gives that food out to those in need. It's a large garden and they always need help weeding, cleaning, and harvesting the food. We had a lot of fun and had a bonus of getting muddy.
The girls made instant friends with another girl there and had a grand old time.
Rosie just mostly ate dirt.
As always, there seems to be some unexpected aspect that has a great impact on me. This time it was how kind, open, and friendly the people were who run the garden. They had such pure love for the service they are doing. And they made us feel like instant family members. It was a good reminder how service gets you out there and you make new friends, connecting in a way you normally wouldn't. And on top of it all, they gifted us with a giant zucchini.
With all the evil we may hear about on the news about all the evil people, there are actually billions more WONDERFUL people out there. They are doing anything they can to give back and help others. And their impact is profound. And so is their friendship. And their crops. ;)
