Memorial Day

Happy Memorial Day!

Memorial day is a great chance to get involved in a unique way. This year I was able to talk to my girls about death more and have them understand. We talked about why it's important to still honor those who have passed on. So we went to the cemetery and looked for graves that seemed lonely and in need of some cheer. I kept it simple and bought a few things from the dollar store and let the girls pick where to put them.
It was a calm and special afternoon. And then on the way out we noticed a woman who was sitting at a grave stone crying, so June ran up and gave her the last flower we had. The woman was touched and placed it on the headstone and after that all my girls wanted to do was to go find more sad people and make them happy with some flowers.

Also, I forgot to add this! We went and saw my grandparents and June and Hazel got to tell them about themselves!

We drove by a cemetery on Memorial Day and Hazel wanted to stop to see the flowers and explained why they were there to me. You taught them a wonderful life lesson. Love these pictures.

Oh my goodness, this makes me cry. What a good experience for them to see someone who is grieving and then have a chance to make thats persons day a little better, and I love the idea that they get to look at graves that are lonely and choose to brighten them up a little bit. And I love the picture of Hazel holding her flower and standing next to gravestone looking out at the graveyard.
