We went to Boise to see my family for Labor day weekend. But we ended up with some trouble on the way there. We ran over something and got a flat tire, a really bad one. But God is good and it happened right by a rest station (just a bathroom and vending machines in the middle of nowhere) but it had a parking lot and we were able to limp in there and be much safer than on the side of the highway. It’s a long story but we couldn’t find a tow truck that could come rescue us and apparently now newer cars don’t come with spare tires anymore (which is so dumb!) So we were so stranded. It was nice that the kids could get out and run around and we found things to do like observe bugs, find cool rocks, and wander the gravel path. Rose started getting scared though and so I gave them all a good speech about how we weren’t in danger and they didn’t need to worry and that we just need to figure out how to make the best of the situation. So we each picked a treat from the vending machine and then watched a movie and then made beds in the van. (Yes, we were there for several hours) Meanwhile, Erin thought of an acquaintance who lived in Burley (the nearest town, an hour away) and contacted her and that woman’s husband, Jeremy, came and rescued us with his van in the middle of the night! How amazing is that! Saved us! Meanwhile my dad headed our way, a few hours away, and we all ended up in Burley in the middle of the night and checked into a hotel to get some sleep.
That morning we woke up and ate and my dad drove me and the kids to Boise while Buck was kind and waited at the tire shop while a tow truck (finally) went and got the van. That took a couple hours plus fixing the tires so Buck didn’t get to Boise until much later so I ’m very grateful my dad came.
So yeah! Rough start but filled with kind, helpful people!
Once in Boise, we did a lot of swimming.
It's always good to be home in Idaho!
Even if it took a new tire, a stranger, two hotel rooms, and several extra hours. ;)
