I've needed a break from making good, responsible choices. Just for one night. (Don't worry, as a mom "irresponsible" still looks pretty tame...) So on a Monday night, for a special family night, we threw caution to the wind and went with our girls during Rose's bed time, a feverish June, and stayed out past bed time to go to a Chinese Lantern Festival. It's a traveling festival so it's not every day we get to do this!
We got there about a half hour till sunset and I'm glad we did. We got to watch the colorful fabrics turn into illuminated lights as the sun disappeared. There were hardly any other people so the girls enjoyed running free amid the enchanted art. We got to watch "sugar painting," which resulted in a dragon sucker. Buck even got a funnel cake. And the girls have such a rough life that they got some cotton candy too.
At the end, there was a show of Chinese dancing, juggling, and balancing. I loved that the girls begged to stay and watch it. So we abandoned all sensibility and stayed for that too.
And so maybe the whole night ended with me fighting a young ice cream shop worked to let my girls use their bathroom, but hey, that's all apart of the adventure.... right?
If anyone is in Utah, I highly recommend skipping your bed times too and checking this out! It's here until May 6th!
Also, June and her fever really let the theatrics out for these photos. :)

So this is totally legit! I just got back from China a month ago (we adopted a little boy) and we went to Xi'an's famed City Wall and they were all decorated for lantern festival just like this. I LOVED it! I am so jealous Utah has an exhibit/experience/traveling awesomeness.

That's so impressive! And poor June! Did you keep her home from school the next day? That would have helped me justify keeping the kids up late! Totally worth it!
This is so cool! It reminds me of a Christmas-time festival that comes to Houston!
