Fiddler On The Roof

We weren't sure if we were going to make it or not, but I'm happy to report that we ended up going to Boise to see my parents perform in the play Fiddler on the Roof. Not only that but my dad played the main role of Tevye and my mom played his wife! 

We were hesitant because of the weather, and well, we were right to be worried. It was pretty awful getting there. These photos don't show how bad it was but we slid a few times, but also once we got to Boise we discovered that two tires were leaking and all of them the tread was bad, so no wonder.

We went to the matinee performance and took June with us! It was her first full adult play (she's been to a couple children plays that were only an hour.)  And she did pretty good considering she's 4. She got antsy during some monologues. But she had the added bonus of seeing her grandparents on the stage most of the time and she liked that and laughed at them when they were funny. When the whole show first started her eyes grew huge and as did her smile, the lights from the stage illuminating her happiness. She leaned over and said, "This is the best show mommy!" It made ME happy to see her love these things as I hope that my girls can grow up having a love and appreciation for art, music, and theater. Um, other people are going to have to help them with a love of sports..... because it wont come from me!

The whole cast did an amazing job. But of course I was most proud of my parents. And the nearly sold out crowd was really responsive and I heard people around us whispering about how talented my parents were. I think it's pretty cool that they do this! They have done many other plays, especially my dad, and he often has the lead roles. He is a computer engineer by day, and a thespian by night! My mom graduated in music and has always been a natural.

Who knows, maybe there's a stage in June or Hazel's future.

I've only been involved with a handful of plays, but I really want to do some more one day. I could knock the singing out of the park! But I'm still not sure about my acting skills. haha But seeing this play and knowing the kinds of opportunities we could have in Boise, that we'll never get in Utah, made me a little sad.

We didn't have a lot of time in Boise, it was a quick weekend trip. But there was dressing up, cupcakes baked, hot tubbing, and hanging out with our favorite niece. We are happy we made it and happy we made it home safety too! Until next time Boise!
