Aw. Hawai'i.
I cried when we landed in Kaua'i. I felt calm just looking at the deep waves. My bones vibrated with the sun drenched memories I had in the South Pacific and my body longed for the new ones I was about to make. A part of me felt at home, as I always do when I am by an ocean. The honeymoon was PERFECT. Relaxing and fun. Lots to do but lots of time to take it slow. We couldn't of been more blessed.
The first day we of course went to the beach. Which was majestic.
The next day we were able to go to Waiamea Canyon, "The Grand Canyon of Hawaii" they call it. And they're not kidding. The massive peaks heave sighs into the sky deep from the bellies of the canyons. The razor and jagged spine weaved and held up it's green drapes. Many times we saw rainbows appear and often a short mist of rain would refresh.
We found a hike along the backbone of one of the mountains. It felt like we were walking along the top of a gigantic alligator.
At one point we found an unmarked road and drove down it. We stopped at no-where-in-particular and got out and climbed over the red sand where we found another canyon ledge, which we climbed down to and sat there, alone with the wind and rocky walls.
The next day we went to the North shore and snorkeled. It was here that I discovered that Buck is a fish. I snorkeled for a bit but then I relaxed on the beach and played my ukulele, Uncle Bill, whom I had brought with me so he could see his homeland.
All the while Buck swam and snorkeled and chased fish and came to believe that he too was one of them.
After that we got to go out to eat lunch where we had sushi.
This is an exciting detail because normally we made our food at the condo- which was actually great for our budget and easy-going week. I especially loved our chocolate chip pancakes that we ate on our balcony that faced the ocean. :)Thursday we got to go see a Hindu temple and some waterfalls and go snorkeling some more.
Our last night in Hawaii was beautiful. We spent some money to go out to eat at a nice restaurant.
Then we went out and sat on the beach and watched the moon rise. That moment was so uncomplicated and real. There was nobody but us. The waves sang and the moonlight softened the land. There we were: newlyweds. In love and unaffected by the world. I decided then that I was going to devote my life to keep that feeling thriving- that when life clouds simplicity I will fight to feel this way.
A poetic ending indeed-BUT- we had one last EPIC adventure our last day before our flight. We woke up early and went on a Na Pali coast boat tour. The Na Pali coast is full of HUGE rugged peaks that cannot be reached by car. The boat tour goes to it. It also took us in piratical caves and up to the cliffs. We saw dolphins swim and jump right by us. Then we got to snorkel in a reef where there were also turtles and dolphins and fish. It was truly an EPIC ending to the world's best honeymoon ever. :)
As we flew away that night I could feel it tear us away. We left a unique and special time. But what a great foundation we have now to build on. Even if it is on sand.
:)

I am THRILLED you had such a marvelous honeymoon! Your pictures are BEAUTIFUL just like you both! I always love your imagination and all the poetic words you have to say, you have such a wonderful outlook on everything! Don't let life take over your new marriage and time together, that's something Matt and I have to remind ourselves sometimes. We want to be newlywed's forever. Happy Marriage!
Did you notice your husband turned into a fish and then right after that, you ate sushi??? That had me just a tad concerned... Glad you had an idyllic honeymoon.
Ooh congrats, & this places looks so wonderful!
Man, that looks so amazing! I miss Hawaii so much, but we're going back the summer after next so I can't wait!! I love your pretty pictures and your uku le le named Uncle Bill. The real Uncle Bill would have been proud and he would have probably taught you how to play, sing and dance a Hawaiian song with it. Have fun newly weds!!
