For our service this month we made a dinner and took it to a domestic abuse shelter. We invited friends to join us and it was a great group project! We made lots of food and I also had the kids make some kind notes to go along with it. We were able to drive the food up and have the kids help drop it off at the shelter as well.
I briefly taught them about abuse shelters as well. I don't think we need to shield our kids from these realities- it's important that they are aware of these hard things so they can help others in their lives. It's extra great to teach them about it and also provide an opportunity to help out people affected by these hardships. That's empowering for us all, right? So that we can be willing to learn about sad things because we know there are different ways big and small to help out.
