A true highlight of our week in Boise was going to the baby animal farm. Had that
event been in Utah it would have been PACKED with families and young
children. There would have been rules and regulations and strict hand
washing stations. But this was out in the middle of fields upon
fields, smack in the middle of nowhere on an Idaho farm. The crowd
was truly minimal. Some hand sanitizer bottles were casually
scattered about. And we were free to roam, to touch, to hold, to risk
our fingers getting nibbled on by a goat. It was wonderfully relaxed
and fun! There were baby goats, donkeys, cows, pigs, sheep, horses.
And the farmers were there too bringing the animals up to the gates
for kids to touch and answering questions about them.
There was a large area of like 50 different tractors! Old ones,
new ones, big ones, small ones, and a free reign on climbing onto any
which one you wanted.
Not impressed.
Nursing on a tractor.
Only because I could and it's kind of become a thing for me over the years to nurse in a variety of random places haha
Then there was a barn, and by “barn” I mean a HUGE building
structure like that of a large grocery store. And inside there were
hills of golden corn and grain that kids could freely climb and play
in. There was a tent of reptiles and we could hold snakes of all
sizes and lizards too. There were colorful pheasants to view. There
were baby puppies, bunnies, ducks, and chickens. You could hold them
and watch them fall asleep in your hand and arms. There was a man
scooping fresh honey and wax from the comb and giving spoonfuls to
whoever wanted one. There were barrels of cold water and plump black
fish that you could go catch with your hands like a bear. And a even
a pretend cow to milk.
Mothering while holding a baby duck. 😅
June was OBSESSED with the baby chickens and stayed there probably 40 minutes!
At one point the whole place cleared out and we were the only people there and it was amazing!
In the next massive barn they were sheering sheep and spinning the
wool on spindle wheels with a backdrop of a MOUNTAIN of corn and
grain behind them. Outside of that there was a coral where you could
watch them training a dog to herd sheep!
And I totally bought this hand spinning kit! I'm so excited!
Honestly! This place was a
farm-dreamland! We were there for a few hours and everyone had such a
good time. The girls were in HEAVEN holding those baby animals and
they even caught fish! They were super brave and interested holding
the snakes too! Incredible! It's so
amazing how much a large crowd of people can dampen an experience
like that but by contrast how no crowd can bring such magic! It was
blissful. Thank you Idaho!

Definitely one of my favorite outings in a while. Just perfect. I hope they do this spring farm again next year. I believe this was their first year.
