In another life

Have you ever wondered what you would do or be if you could completely change your life around?
No? Is it just me that thinks about strange and pointless things like this?*

Regardless, I asked Buck once who he would be and he said that he would be more of an outdoorsy kind of guy. You know- the guy that hikes and bikes and catches fish with his bare hands? The guy that knows his way around the REI store? The one who owns his own kayak and goes camping nearly every week? The guy who can live off of power bars and only takes his drinks from his Camelbak? Yep. That's who Buck would be in another life.

He's kind of like this, though. He is great at water sports and boating. He would camp on the weekends if he had time and/or money. He can paint wonderful paintings of the mountains and meadows.

So, maybe one day Buck. Your name sure would suit you well in that life.

When I've pondered this I've come up with a few different options and sometimes it can be hard to narrow down. But currently I think this would be my answer:

Simply put- I would be a beach dwelling, sun worshiping, swim suit only wardrobe, South Pacific surfer.

Right? I would always be out on the waves and I would spend my days roaming around the island in my swimming suit. I would eat simple and fresh fruits and fish. And mochi balls. In the evenings I would be found sitting under the salty stars or in my house watching a rented movie with all the windows and doors open. I'd have a permanent tan and crazy blonde hair. I could be laid back and use words that only surfers can use and sound cool. I would have constant spiritual moments with the sea and.... have a side job playing my ukulele for weddings and events. I would be the coolest mom. Oh, And I would know all the secret migrations of the dolphins so I would go out to the secret beaches to see them and show Buck and June.

The only things I have going for me with this is my mermaid hair, my ukulele, and that I eat a lot of fresh fruit. I'm afraid that my love for the ocean will never bring me closer to it and I am anything BUT graceful in the waves. Me + Surf board= 911. But hey, maybe in another life right?

--------------------------------------------
And then I was thinking the other day, what would I be if I was born in an earlier century? I mean photography is recent in the world's history. I guess if I was around and in my prime during the 1920's-1940's I would have been a lounge singer (still a dream. An unrealistic one, but a dream nonetheless.) I would have always been a writer but no matter the place I am on the timeline I think only a few people will ever appreciate that about me.

So. What would I be?
The answer was easy.
A scientist.
And why not be a scientist now? Well, because my mind is pretty basic I suppose and all the great questions of the universe that I have I can just google and find the answer. But if I would have lived years and years ago, I would have wondered why? and how? about everything. Only I might have been the first to ask and the first to discover the answers. It would have been exciting to do experiments and get results. The things I would have wondered about most would have been nature and weather and the stars. So... umm, the whole planet I suppose. ;) I mean, I wouldn't have been the one to create light bulbs and machines but maybe I would have discovered why the sky is blue or figured out photosynthesis or the reason for salt vs. fresh water.

I don't even have to ask Buck what his answer would be. I already know. He would have been a wood worker and carver. He would have made furniture and things and then made them unique and beautiful with tactile art forever embedded into the wood.

haha okay maybe I'm wrong. Buck just said he would have been a knight. ;)
Oh wait he just read what I wrote and nodded and said "Oh! yep! that's true. A wood worker... and a knight on the side." I love that I know him better than he knows himself. ;)

So now it's YOUR turn to answer one or both of the questions. (all three of you who read this and actually comment) Tell me, what would you be in another life or century?

*These thoughts and imagination attacks in no way mean that I am unhappy or dissatisfied with my life. I simply think it's fun to think about!

Mmm mochi balls...

This is awesome. I'm totally asking Steve about this tonight, although i know he would look exactly like buck's mountain man picture albeit slightly more hairy :-)

Good question. I've been thinking about it all day long!! and still haven't come up with an answer ;) maybe it's hard to find the answer, because than the next question would come up: why am I not doing all those things, I would do in my other life?? ... or I am just really indecisive? (and thats's also the reason I still haven't figured out who I want to be in this life ;) ) well anyhow I really liked the post, and the fact that it made me think about those questions.... :) still I think it is kind of weird, because you don't know me "in this life" and here I am, "talking" to you about what I would be in another life.... but well, than again I think thats what blogging is kinda about: sharing a bit of your world with friends/family but also with strangers...

Last night I was watching "Shark Tank" and saw something that would interest Buck, heck he's already made one. Its season 4 episode 25 on hulu. Called Geek Chic. You might think this is a random post but its actually relevant. you'll see once you watch it :)

Those are thought provoking questions and I don't know what the answer would be for me. Maybe a professional organizer for the first question! And I'd also like to be outdoors a lot more than I am--I'd love to hike the entire Appalachian Trail, from Maine to Georgia! Frank would either be a guy who owns his own restaurant and comes up with new recipes all the time or a guy who lives in a cabin up in the mountains that can only be reached by plane or helicopter and that gets several feet of snow in the winter! The other century question? I really don't know except I'd love to have lived in a time when women wore elegant long dresses and hats! (But not the corsets...ugh!) Maybe I would have made quilts or something!
